Dimensions

Dimensions provide a way to organize data beyond standard account reporting, allowing you to segment financial information in reports. Dimension groups are named sets of members within a dimension.

Why it matters

Accountants and controllers use dimensions to gain deeper insights into business performance by categorizing transactions based on criteria like location, department, or project. This enables more targeted analysis and better decision-making through customized financial reports.

When you use it

  • Dimension structures define how dimension data is displayed in financial reports, allowing you to select specific subsets of dimensions (e.g., locations within a region).
  • You can create dimension groups to represent logical groupings of dimension members based on defined criteria (e.g., customers in a particular state).
  • Dimension groups and structures are used together to filter and organize data presented in financial reports.
  • Dimensions can be used for reporting purposes, allowing you to analyze performance by various categories.
