Close Books

Closing books finalizes accounting periods and prevents posting transactions to prior periods. It's a key step in the period-end process.

Why it matters

Closing books ensures accurate financial reporting by preventing unauthorized transaction postings into past periods, which can compromise data integrity and auditability.

When you use it

  • Books are closed via the General Ledger > All > Books > Close page.
  • Once a book is closed, you cannot post transactions for dates older than the selected end period.
  • Closing a subsequent period automatically closes any preceding open periods (e.g., closing Q3 closes Q2).
  • Adjusting journal entries can be added to closed books.
