Journal Entries

Journal Entries are used to record financial transactions within Sage Intacct. They can be standard entries or adjustments made to closed periods.

Why it matters

Accountants and controllers use journal entries to accurately reflect financial activity, including making corrections in previously closed accounting periods via adjusting journal entries. Maintaining a clear audit trail is essential for compliance and reporting accuracy.

When you use it

  • Adjusting journal entries can be added to closed books, but require the book to be unlocked first.
  • Journal entries can be saved as drafts, allowing for review and modification before posting.
  • When posted, all journal entries must be balanced and include all required information.
  • Entries can be substantiated with supporting attachments.
